Rick "Bushman" Pike and Simon
"Canuck" Bouma decided to get an early start. Both were ready to go by 0800. The unbiased reporter and his (or her) trusty
sidekick Farah, the corgi, blended in perfectly and went unnoticed.
It was obvious from the start, that both
players were a bit rusty as the disc taco'ing began early. Early indications seem to point to Pike's
Pine taking the brunt of the errant throws.
By hole #4, when Bushie hit the bottom of the basket, both realized they
need to get out much more often. Nuckie,
the Canuck, made an impressive bend on the dogleg right on hole #7 to set up an
easy par.
By the
time they reached hole #9, they ran into some "real" players who were
part of the Sunday league and they watched in amazement as the discs flew
across the pond as the players were going for Aces. After watching that, they bravely stepped to
the #9 tee, and wimped out and tried to go around. Even with that pitiful approach to the beloved
game, Bushie still managed to throw his (non floatable) disc into the
pond. On #10, Bushie made sure to stay
dry as he threw his disc in the direction of the soccer fields and away from
any water, real or imagined.
Bushie was still in mourning for his discs
over the next few holes, dampening his spirits, if not his discs. After watching Bushie maliciously attack a
jogger with a disc that deflected off of a tree, Nuckie, who had been holding
back a bit up to this point, decided to put the final nail in the coffin on #14
as he made a 150 foot birdie with a tremendous side arm shot around a
tree.
The league crew after watching Nuckie throw
on #14, moved #16 from the closer position A to the very long distance,
position C location. This was all too
much for Bushie. It took several moments
before he regained his composure and stood up to play the last few holes. Bushie was so delirious that he even though
about coming to New England for some real fun in both regular and disc golf. However, after his now anticipated drubbing
in October, time will tell whether he has the fortitude to venture north or
will he just stay rooted down south, afraid to come up north!
