New comers dominate
Last night's match did not turn out as expected. The match was expected
to be between Darrell "Woody" Gilman and Duane "Puma" Pawson. However,
upstarts KC "Sunshine" Reeves and Pete "No Nickname" (yet) Schechterle
dominated last night's match. KC and Pete blazed through the front 9
shooting a 32. Pete birdied the 10th hole taking a 2 shot lead. KC
gained a shot back on the 11th closing to within one. Pete faltered on
the 14th, 16th and 18th holes to hand KC a two shot victory 64-62. Woody
Gilman got off to a slow start, probably due to his long layoff between
matches. However, once warmed up, Woody made 3 pars on the back 9 to
shoot a 73. Puma got off to a very poor start, planting his disc squarely
into Pike's Pine on the first hole, but played well enough all night to
shoot a 74. Rick "Bushman" Pike made quite a splash. Seemingly more
concerned with his second walk about in 2 days and needing an additional
challenge, Bushman decided to heave his second shot on the 9th hole, not
towards the hole as most players do, but instead propelled it towards the
center of the lake. Bushman ended up shooting a 84. Another newcomer,
Derrick "Pinkie the Beast" Brooks, using his pink Goblin disc throughout
the night played very well for his first time out and looks like another
force to be reckoned with. Pinkie shot a 40 on the front 9. However on
the back 9 when Pinkie was able to start unleashing his Beast driver,
ended up with a 74, including 4 pars. Although not evident in the scores,
Dave "Putting Machine" Miller (PMM), will also be very competitive. PMM
took a while to figure out a throwing technique that works but proved to
be a dead eye putter once he was within 45 feet. PMM also got his first
par on the 12th hole (everyone par'd that hole except Bushman, who was on
another walk about) ended up with a 94.
The final order of finish (with handicaps)
Puma - 74 - 56
KC - 62 - 62
Darrell - 73 - 64
Pete - 64 - 64
Rick - 84 - 69
